Plastic surgery is often the first thought. But if you’re not sure you’re ready to take that step just yet, there is a very safe and effective alternative. With that in mind, the office of Douglas S. Steinbrech, MD, FACS, is pleased to announce that Jill Badalamente, a medical aesthetician, will be providing MedSpa treatments at Dr. Steinbrech’s Midtown Manhattan office in New York City.
What is a MedSpa?
MedSpa is short for “medical spa,” meaning a relaxing and rejuvenating set of aesthetic treatments administered by a specially trained technician or aesthetician. These treatments can often give you very similar results to plastic surgery without actually undergoing surgery. That means a shorter recovery time with less risk and, in many cases, less expense.
MedSpa treatments are skin care procedures used to improve skin that is thin, wrinkled, or sagging due to age. They can also help to smooth and heal skin that is scarred by stretch marks, acne, or injury, as well as treat discoloration from sun exposure, mild sun damage, rosacea, or uneven pigmentation like dark spots.
Some patients choose a combination of both traditional plastic surgery and MedSpa therapies for truly outstanding results.
If MedSpa treatments sound like they might be right for you, you’ll find more information about them in the sections below. Of course, our office staff is always happy to answer any questions you have. You can reach them at (212) 750-0070.
Medspa Facial Services
Comprehensive Facial
This includes a relaxing, cleansing massage, followed by manual exfoliation, toning, and extracting.
Fire & Ice Facial
A fast, safe treatment option to resurface and rejuvenate the skin with little to no downtime. Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as well as improving uneven skin tone and large pores, resulting in a more youthful complexion.
Chemical Peels In Medspa Treatment
AHA Peel
A light peel using AHA (Alpha-Hydroxy Acid.) The AHA exfoliates the skin’s topmost surface for a brighter and more even appearance. This solution fights visible blemishes, smooths fine lines, minimizes pores, and improves overall skin health and radiance.
BHA Peel
A somewhat stronger peel using BHA (Beta-Hydroxy Acid.) The BHA softens and dissolves keratin, a protein that forms part of the skin structure. Helps smooth out acne scarring, fine lines, and wrinkles, and improves skin dullness and uneven texture.
VI PEEL
A gentle but powerful medical-grade chemical peel for the treatment plan of acne and acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, age and sun spots, hyperpigmentation, melasma, rosacea, and enlarged pores. Helps restore proper oil balance and overall skin health. Every ingredient in the VI Peel has FDA approval.
Medspa Laser Treatments
Laser Hair Removal
Hair removal with the Excel V Laser uses highly-concentrated beams of light directed towards the hair to be removed from the body. The laser beam selectively penetrates each hair follicle, and then destroys it when its pigment absorbs the laser beam.
Secret Pro Ultra-Light
This light laser peel provides gentle exfoliation and reveals healthy, refreshed skin. This treatment helps prevent further signs of aging as well as addressing uneven texture, dull skin tone, and overall complexion quality.
Laser Skin Rejuvenation
The Excel V laser affects the upper layer of the skin, and accelerates and stimulates collagen regrowth. Great for redness, rosacea, stretch marks, and fine lines and wrinkles, as well as for renewing tone and texture and minimizing large pores and acne scars.
Pigmentation Treatment
Laser pigmentation with the Excel V works by eliminating pigment on the surface of the skin through the body’s lymphatic system. Your pigmentation may darken, lighten, fade, or appear to be unchanged immediately post-treatment, but the desired change will become evident later.
Vascular Reduction
Vascular lasers such as the Excel V selectively target unwanted or abnormal blood vessels in the skin, while minimizing damage to the surrounding skin structures. Modern vascular lasers are very safe and effective when used by professionally trained staff.
Rosacea Treatment
Depending on skin type, the severity of symptoms, and other factors, patients with rosacea respond to laser treatment in different ways. Typically, laser therapy with Excel V requires a series of treatments to see results. Please contact our office to schedule a consultation.
Scar Blending
Treatments using the Excel V laser for scar removal do vary, so we recommend scheduling a consultation first to determine the best course for you. We will be able to give you an exact quote during the consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions about Medspa
The word “aesthetics” can be defined as “the study of beauty.” A medical aesthetician is a person trained in healing and restoring the skin so that it looks younger, smoother, and more beautiful.
For laser treatments, patients may need a few weeks to several months for full healing. Sun protection is vitally important during this time. Chemical peel downtime can take up to ten days for full healing. You should wait at least three to four days before any activities that cause sweating, to give the skin time to heal.
Any skin that has had rejuvenation treatments will be very sensitive to sunlight and must be protected from the sun until fully healed. Laser treatments may invoke redness and peeling, much like a mild sunburn, for a few days to a few weeks after treatment.
Peeling begins about three days after application and lasts up to seven to ten days. The skin may look pink during that time but it should not be turning red or causing discomfort.
Radiofrequency treatment side effects are typically mild redness and swelling, rarely for more than a few days.
